This calculator provides a preliminary sensible cooling load estimate. It does not account for latent heat, humidity changes, fan heat, equipment losses, altitude correction, or equipment selection margins. Engineering validation is required before equipment selection.

Methodology

Qs = ρ × Cp × V̇ × ΔT

  • Qs — sensible cooling load, kW
  • ρ — air density, kg/m³
  • Cp — specific heat of air, kJ/(kg·K)
  • V̇ — volumetric airflow, m³/s
  • ΔT — return minus supply air temperature, K

Sensible load is the heat that changes air temperature. Total cooling load also includes latent load — the heat removed by condensing moisture — which this calculator does not include.

Default assumptions

ρ = 1.20 kg/m³ and Cp = 1.006 kJ/(kg·K), typical preliminary engineering conditions. Actual air density varies with temperature, altitude, pressure and humidity.

  • 1 TR = 3.5168528421 kW
  • 1 m³/h = 1/3600 m³/s
  • 1 CFM = 0.4719474432 L/s
  • 1 L/s = 0.001 m³/s
